OFA Applications & Radiographs
Pajaro Valley Veterinary Hospital takes OFA radiographs and handles the application process for you. Whether you’re a breeder planning your next litter or a pet owner who wants to understand your dog’s joint health, our team makes OFA screening easy.
What Is OFA?
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is a nonprofit organization that evaluates radiographs for inherited orthopedic conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia. OFA results are recorded in a national database, helping breeders make informed breeding decisions and reduce the risk of passing these conditions on to future generations.
Our OFA Services
We primarily offer radiographs for:
-
Hip evaluations
-
Elbow evaluations
How It Works
1. We Take the Radiographs: Our team takes high-quality radiographs of your dog’s hips and/or elbows, positioned to meet OFA’s requirements.
2. We Complete the Application: We fill out the OFA application for you, so there’s no paperwork to worry about.
3. We Submit Everything to OFA: We send the radiographs and application directly to OFA, where their specialists evaluate the images and issue the results
Before Your Visit
Sedation: Some dogs may need sedation to get properly positioned radiographs. This depends on the individual animal, and our team will discuss it with you.
AKC-Registered Dogs: If your dog is registered with the AKC, please bring their registration papers or have their AKC number available at your appointment.
Who Is This Service For?
OFA screening is open to all pet owners. Most of our OFA clients are breeders, but any owner who wants to learn more about their dog’s hip or elbow health is welcome.
